Andrew Pierre Hart: Bio-Data Flows and Other Rhythms – A Local Story, Whitechapel Gallery

Dates | 15 February – 7 July 2024

Venue | Whitechapel Gallery, Gallery 7

Known for his interdisciplinary practice and strong interests in the symbiotic relationship between painting and sound, London-based artist Andrew Pierre Hart has been commissioned to present a new solo exhibition Andrew Pierre Hart: Bio-Data Flows and Other Rhythms – A Local Story at Whitechapel Gallery and will be participating in Lisson Gallery’s group exhibition Accordion Fields, both opening in February 2024.

Through the motion of cross-modality, reconstructing languages and the generation of ideas, Hart’s creative methods are heavily based on improvisation and collective memory, as well as rhythmic and spatial expressions which are highly experimental and spontaneous, as seen in his recent solo exhibition Andrew Pierre Hart Solo Exhibition: The Invention of a Graphic Score at Asia Art Center (Taipei) where he collaborated with local composer Sherwin Yang who provided musical responses to the artist’s oil paintings.

The exhibition Andrew Pierre Hart: Bio-Data Flows and Other Rhythms – A Local Story includes a site-specific mural, six new oil paintings, a bamboo sculpture, a new sound composition and a film shot locally in the Whitechapel Gallery neighborhood. Through versatile medium, the artist showcases works inspired by the rich local history and diverse cultures which are key to the community.

Born in London, Andrew Pierre Hart graduated from the Royal College of Art with a MA in Painting (2019) and holds a BA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts (2017).
