Asia Art Center participates in the 2024 Taipei Dangdai Art & Ideas, showcasing selected works of 10 top artists from both domestic and international realms at booth C07 in the Galleries Sector. Our featured artists include Hyangmok BAIK (South Korea, 1990-), Chase Biado (USA, 1985-), CHANG Tengyuan (Taiwn, 1983-), Teiji HAYAMA (Japan, 1975-), Emma Stone-Johnson (UK, 1982-), Li Chen (Taiwan, 1963-), Crystal Lupa (Taiwan, 1989-), David Noro (Denmark, 1993-), Andrew Sendor (USA, 1977-), and YEH Tzu-Chi (Taiwan, 1957-). Rooted in the context of new Eastern aesthetics, the presentation will concurrently feature contemporary artworks from Europe, America, and Taiwan.

A special highlight of this show is the presentation of Li Chen’s mid-large scale sculpture Pure Land, a seldom-seen work at previous art fairs, from his Energy of Emptiness series created in 1998. The figure floats on the top of a mountain tip, stretching its arms and having its legs crossed. The sculpture conveys a sense of carefree transcendence, marking Li Chen’s distinctive monumental levity style and establishing his unique aesthetic characteristics. Hualien-based artist Yeh Tzu-Chi, renowned for his hyper-realistic paintings created with a blend of oil and tempera techniques, is preparing to unveil a new wide-format piece spanning the years 2016 to 2024. This latest painting, rich and fantastical, seems to encapsulate a deep yearning for the natural world. As the mountains are vividly portrayed through the ethereal atmosphere of his art, it carries particular significance in the aftermath of Taiwan’s Hualien 403 major earthquake. Additionally, two emerging Taiwanese artists, Chang Tengyuan and Crystal Lupa, will showcase new series of paintings and multiple installations at the fair. Chang’s works often revolve around a concept of post-apocalyptic archaeology, creating fictional stories in a hypothetical setting. He skillfully incorporates elements from Eastern and Western paintings into his symbolic system, reconstructing them in his artworks. Meanwhile, Crystal Lupa’s meticulously arranged painted landscapes often contain metaphors of cross-racial and reproductive aspects, using art to symbolize inner spaces and explore issues of self, narratives, shadows, and collective unconscious.

Asia Art Center continues to promote our long-term plan for the global art scene, bringing emerging and established artists who are receiving attention in the international contemporary art world, including Hyangmok Baik, Chase Biado, Teiji Hayama, Emma Stone-Johnson, David Noro, and Andrew Sendor. These artists from diverse backgrounds and life experiences interpret philosophy, daily life, and the interaction between humans and nature through their visual vocabulary and narrative styles.
